My daughter just turned one on 1/23/07. She has been battling allergies and excema since birth also. She is allergic to egg, milk, wheat, peanut and cat. We have tried lots of different creams and ointments for her excema and have not found any relief for her. We cover her arms with my 8yr olds socks at night to keep her from scratching herself into a bloody mess. This picture reminds me so much of my daughter. I am happy that your daughter found relief and im sure you have also. It is a very hard thing to sit and watch your child be so uncomfortable in their own skin. Mollie has a dermatologist appt. in April. Is there anything over the counter that you found to work better than others to get her through until then?
I feel for you – its very tough, especially when the weather is hot.
Try Dermeze – its 50% liquid paraffin and 50% soft white paraffin. It was recommended by our specialist and was very cheap and seemed to offer relief.
Ego also has a range of products which we use, bath oils, moisturisers – which have no scents or additives. We always used bath oil in the bath – never soap. (We still use bath oils, as she is still prone to excema although we use shampoo which we didn’t when she was a baby).
Ego has also released a suncreen which I used recently – very good.
Our specialist prescribed Elocon (which is a quartizone ointment) for her face and Celestone for her body.
Another suggestion – which may sound mad – take some photos of the excema. I would never have thought to, but a nurse at the allergy specialist suggested it to me and I look back and realise I would never have remembered quite how bad it was. Bizarre thought, but true.
Good luck with Mollie and her allergies. I hope they subside with time.
